How To Problem Solve With The Right Habits

“How you think about a problem is more important than the problem itself.”
  Norman Vincent Peale

Life would be so much easier if we didn’t have any problems, but reality tells us that we will always encounter difficulties along the way. Today’s treasure is all about Problem Solving and how it helps our wellbeing. When faced with a problem it is still wise to look for an opportunity and learn from the situation at hand.

Have you ever felt anxiety before facing a problem face to face? I have, and it’s not fun. It always seemed to me that the best way to deal with a certain the problem was to avoid it, I realized that it was not to my best interest to prevent my problems but to deal with them always focusing on a solution and recognizing when a situation was complicated or uncomplicated. By knowing the difference made it a lot easier for me to handle stressful situations.

Below I will share with you what has worked for me on my journey of self-development and improvement. Similarly, the way I handle any other situation, I have kept it simple. Read, study and put into practice the five recommended tips to increase your problem-solving skills.

Focus On A Solution

Does this sound familiar?“ if you come to me with a problem, bring the solution.” You’ve probably heard it at work, or a friend, who knows but, it’s hard when your mind is in a fog, and you can’t seem to understand which way is up. If you sit quietly and break down the situation step by step, you can and will find a solution that will be a win-win for everyone involved. The key is to remain focused and not act out on your impulses.

Be Flexible

Don’t go into a situation and think you are right. Remain flexible, listen to the other person's point of view, in the end, if you were right the only way to demonstrate it, is by asking the right questions and bring your version of the story without offending anyone. Make sure to be clear and concise.

Learn

Let’s face it; you are not going to be right all of the time. Take the opportunity and learn from the situation. It goes a long way when you can admit your failure and learn from it. Identify all of the opportunities that are available to keep learning and growing.

Develop Socially

Start connecting with people, use the power of your own words to develop a sense of social growth. Strive to find peaceful middle solutions. Don’t go into a situation with anger or resentment, back away until you are no longer feeling those negative feelings. When you are ready to step into the conversation with the purpose of connecting, you automatically will feel better.

Practice Prevention

Focus on preventing a problem rather than intervening. Avoid drama at all cost; when the issue becomes conflictive, it will never end up a win-win situation. Stay calm, stay focused and be the person that brings solutions.

Below you will find some habits of a good problem solver:

  • Deep Prober
  • Risk Taker
  • Persistent
  • Enthusiastic
  • Meticulous
  • Adaptable and Flexible
  • Open Minded
  • Light Hearted
  • Proactive
  • Curious
  • Non-conforming
In summary, if you find it hard to solve problems, it’s not impossible to acquire habits, attitude, beliefs, and qualities to get you closer to becoming a great problem solver. But, you have to put your part and change your mindset on how you are handling problems. Remember, to take one treasure at a time to create a life of ultimate wellbeing.
