How To Be Happy Again After A Painful Breakup

It’s a fact; breakups are devastating. Today’s treasure is about starting over with power. It is entirely reasonable to feel angry, sad, frustrated and confused. But, today I am telling you that after taking the much needed time to heal, it’s time to strip away the bad and jump right into the good. Your primary focus after the final decision is to keep moving forward.

Recently I started working with a client that is going through a torment of a breakup. Seven years of false happiness she calls it. But was it false? Or do people grow and change? That’s what I often ask myself. My goal is to allow her to break through her mental fog and see her strength and shine through. While working with her, I am more convinced now that our thoughts can either lead us towards power or devastation. My job as a coach is to help her find her strength on her own. That’s why I chose to share with you steps on how come out of the rut and start living a new life after a breakup.

Let’s face it, it’s a loss in your life, and it’s time to grieve and heal. Then it’s time to wipe the tears and work through the pain. The best way I can put it is to shake it off. ( I can’t help hearing Taylor Swift's song “Shake It Off, Shake It Off!) But, that’s what you need to start focusing on, shaking it off.

Below you will find your starter kit to get the ball rolling, but remember, your primary goal is to feel genuinely happy. It’s going to take time, it’s not going to be easy, but it is necessary for you to get your power back. And you must show up daily and work on yourself on a consistent basis. It’s about you; it’s about your potential.

Step 1 - Take Time Off From Social Media

The first thing I recommend you do is to turn off all of your social media accounts. Do not browse your friend's accounts; this is important to keep you focused. Do you want to keep revisiting old memories? Or are you ready to explore your beautiful new future?

Step 2 - Create A New Routine

Change it up. Are you currently exercising? If the answer is no, then it’s time to incorporate some physical activities. Do you like sports, the gym or going for lovely walks? Jot down what your new routine looks like and plan it out, change it and expect to feel better. If you haven’t danced in a long time, it’s time to start dancing.

Step 3 - Interrupt Negative Self Talk

Thinking good things again will take some time. It is imperative to stop yourself from thinking negative thoughts about you or the situation. It’s time to move forward, and the best way is not focusing on what went wrong, In addition to adverse self-talk, when you are with friends or family keep the discussion about the breakup to a minimum and do not get into details. Stay vague and keep working towards your goals. There is no need to keep talking about the same story over and over again. That is killing you.

Step 4 - Change Your Mindset

There are many ways to start shifting your mindset from anger to happiness, from confusion to clarity and that is by reading, listening to Podcast or watching videos. Watch motivational videos, meditation videos and or uplifting music. Start feeding your mind different things that encourage you to feel the power that you have inside of you.

Step 5 - Surround Yourself With Supportive People

Weed out the negative people. Your goal is to be in places or with people that vibrate in high vibrations. If you feel good around a particular person, then spend time with him or her. Start listening to your feelings, what are your feelings telling you?

Step 6 - Pamper Yourself

You are unique; it’s time to feel it. Can’t afford a day at the Spa, then create the Spa. Buy candles, incense, new body oils, and creams. Create a Zen playlist on your phone. You can find amazing videos on YouTube to soothe your soul. It’s time for you to take care of yourself. A manicure, pedicure a new haircut, the works. Are you ready to feel great again?

Step 7 - Explore New Interests

It’s time to take a pen and paper and jot a few notes. Write a list of everything you enjoy doing, things you haven’t done in a long time and things that you want to learn. Take classes, read books, watch YouTube videos, but do something different, something that will bring the joy that’s hiding inside of you. Start discovering new hobbies. It is a new beginning, a fresh start a new you.
