How To Unlock Your Personal Development Journey

Let’s open up the Treasure Chest and see what’s inside. This week we will explore Personal Development.  Everyone needs a boost now and then, what better way than with self-improvement.  What do you do on a daily basis to improve?  Let’s take a look at the meaning of personal development.

Personal development is a lifelong process. It is a way for people to assess their skills and qualities, consider their aims in life and set goals to realize and maximize their potential. Source - Google Definition.

Besides studying about mindset, spirituality and wellbeing one of my favorite subjects is personal development.  I have been practicing and learning about it since my teen years.  It’s helped me with my career and communication as a whole.

It can get overwhelming.  Don’t try to do everything at once, just allow yourself to pick and choose what works best.  Work at your own pace and discover how to get started with ease and purpose. Sometimes you may feel stuck and trapped inside, let’s get this chest unlocked and keep enjoying the journey.

1. Develop A Plan
Want to develop a skill that will get you to the next level? How are you going to go about it?  First, you need to be aware, by being aware you will trigger an interest of some sort.  Narrow it down, want to develop your career, relationship or self-improvement?  Determine a particular area. After deciding what you want to work on, develop an action plan.  Write it out for effectiveness and get started immediately.   Remember to set goals that are easy to reach.

2. Read
The beauty about reading is the ability to read an actual book or listen to an audio.  Find what works for you, and do it.  This is one of the best ways to stay on top of your game.  After you determine what you want to improve on, then go out and search for a book, read a blog or a trade magazine.  Just keep at it and keep learning.

3. Search The Web
The World Wide Web.  An information overload.  You just need to know where to look.  My ultimate favorite is Youtube, there is nothing I can’t find on it.  Want a boost of motivation? Checkout the videos from Evan Carmichael.  But, I also use other sites like Reddit, it’s not just for IT resources take a look at a subpage on personal development .  Udemy, one of my favorite eLearning sites for my English Lessons, but I stumbled across their personal development lessons as well, check it out. TED, I discovered TED Talks a couple of years ago, and I was hooked, this is a place to go and get inspired.  Pinterest, besides a good recipe, it can give you loads of motivational and inspiring post for you to use immediately.  Get creative and use the tool that resonates best with you.

4. Create A Vision Board
Visualize and conquer.  Vision boards help with your focus and determination.  Put on the board what inspires you, what keeps you motivated and sparks up creativity.  I have my old school collage type of board, but with technology, it is easy to create a virtual vision board, checkout HappyTapper it is an app to create vision boards and have it accessible on the go.

5. Put It Into Practice
Just get started.  Start where you are and get your plan together to continue on your development journey.  Do not let others determine your future, have the initiative to do it for yourself.

In summary, keep filling up your Treasure Chest with treasures that fill your soul. Keep striving to stay happy and keep moving forward.

Much Love,
