The Benefits of Journaling
Keep a journal. That’s easy for me to say, I love to document my every move. The art of journaling is proven to help with anxiety, stress and all types of emotions. There has been lots of research done to prove this and I am living proof that it helps.
Let’s take a trip down memory lane; I was thirteen years old, and all I could think about was to write my day's events. I continued to write my thoughts and emotions down on paper, and it became very handy when in my twenties I experienced loss and heartbreak. I lost my dear brother, and that tore me into pieces. But, thanks to Journaling I felt a little better every day.
I learned through the process that writing things down allowed me to be more self-aware and mindful. A powerful tool that allows you to release anxiety, stress and helps you unleash your creativity. There are many different reasons why people journal and some won’t give it a try. But, the benefits that it offers it’s well worth giving it an opportunity. Even if it’s a small paragraph a day, write. It helps.
In my experience, Journaling benefits in three powerful ways. It releases stress, unleashes creativity, and it heals your heart.
Releases Stress
The act of writing clears your mind. Studies have shown that writing and expressing your thoughts lowers anxiety, stress, and helps you sleep better. Writing removes mental blocks and allows you to understand yourself. What a better way of clarifying your thoughts and feelings.
Unleashes Creativity
Give free writing a try. If you don’t consider yourself an artist in any way, try Julia Cameron’s “Morning Pages” It's a writing exercise that helps with your writing. Sometimes we struggle to let our juices flow. But her tool is simple, and her concept is to write without thinking “stream of consciousness” writing.
Heals Your Heart
A loss of a loved one, a pet, a bad breakup or divorce is the worst pain a person can endure. I have experienced it first hand with the loss of my brother. The act of writing him a letter allowed me to connect with him on a different level. It mended my heart. Are you experiencing a heartache? Give Journaling a chance it will heal your soul.
In summary, keep a journal. Let go, write down your journey and live freely. In the end, it’s your experience, your emotions and you have the control. Have a fantastic week, Happy New Year...See you next year.
