5 Tips on Finding Happiness

5 Tips on Finding Happiness

(That’s me feeling happy with my grand niece Sofia a.k.a Popia)

Everyone wants to be happy.  Unfortunately, we all know that we don’t feel happy all of the time.  What is your definition of Happiness? Feeling in a good mood, Feeling unstoppable, Having a smile from ear to ear, whatever your definition is, that’s the right one for you.  I consider myself a Happy person, but I have to admit that there are times I just don’t feel it. Like everything else in life, it takes work.

It has taken me a long time to understand the true meaning of being happy. You can probably relate to having good and bad days, right? I desperately wanted to come up with a couple of ways to feel the joy and enjoy the benefits it brings.  Have you considered what triggers your negative emotions? Dealing with life in our world can be challenging, does it upset you when someone cuts you off while driving? I bet it does, just look for ways to turn the negative into a positive, and it will make you feel better.

Remember when I told you that it takes work? That’s because I spent countless hours researching on the topic.  One thing I learned and resonated with me was that we are vibrational beings.  What do I mean by that?  Have you ever felt magnificent? Then another day you just felt down, tired or just bothered? After studying the work of Abraham-Hicks, I learned about vibration and energy.  Our goal as humans is to be in a higher vibration to feel happy and to attract what we mostly desire.  More on Abraham another day, today I will focus on showing you what helped me.  Below you will find the five tips that will help you reach your Happiness goal.

1.  Let Go of the Past
2.  Accept your Bad Days
3.  Give to Others
4.  Find Meaning in every Relationship
5.  Be grateful

Tip #1 Let Go of the Past
We all have a past.  I can assure you that we all share good and bad times.  The key here is that we can’t live reminiscing.  Most of the time when someone revisits the past it’s not a good experience.  A breakup, when you got fired, when he/she cheated on you.  Stop.  Just focus on what you are doing now, that will release the stress.  Feel the energy of having fun today, and enjoy every moment.  Just let it go! Be here today.

Tip #2  Accept your Bad Days
What do you do when you are in a bad mood?  Do you take it out on others? Do you sit in silence until you are feeling better? Or do you make everyone around you pay for your bad mood?  I bet it’s probably all of the above.  What I learned is to accept that you are not feeling your best.   It is vital not to share your grumpiness with anyone.  Allow yourself to think thoughts that are pleasant and don’t feed fuel to the fire.  Try to recreate a happy feeling every time you are feeling down, think of something or someone that brings you joy.  Before you know it, this day will be over.  Ask yourself “will this matter a year from now?” If all else fails, meditate, visit a place that brings you good memories or just take a nap.

Tip #3 Give to Others
Have you ever stopped to help a neighbor with their groceries? Spent a day volunteering? Give someone a genuine smile? The act of giving is so pleasurable that it automatically gives you a sense of happiness.  I challenge you today to compliment someone.  If you sincerely give from the heart without expecting something in return, I guarantee that you will have a sense of happiness that will fulfill your inner being.  If you were sitting next to me right now, I would give you a hug.

Tip #4 Find meaning in every relationship
We have many relationships.  Parents, siblings, children, co-workers, friends, extended families.  All relationships are unique and valuable.  The best relationship to have is a with ourselves.  How do we find meaning in our relationships?  We have to respect each other, find a way to understand our differences and forgive.  Let’s face it; we are all different.  Believe me, if you honor your relationships, you will find happiness.

Tip #5 Be Grateful
Just say Thank you.  It doesn’t matter what your beliefs are or what religion you practice.  It’s a grand gesture to be thankful.  Never forget the small things in life and say thank you often.  It feels great, and it’s a step closer to Happiness.

In Summary,  even if it seems impossible or just hard, look for happiness.  Search for ways to let go of the past, accept your bad days, give to others, find meaning in every relationship and best of all Be Grateful.
